MILE END ART PAVILION WEDDING

I’m pretty familiar with Mile End in East London after years of visiting good friends of mine who live in the area. I’d strolled through Mile End Park often and always admired the garden bridge that hovers over hectic Mile End Road. I’ve enjoyed many a pint at the infamous Palm Tree pub sitting out on the grass overlooking Regents canal. I must admit however I wasn't really aware of the Mile End Arts Pavilion until Nic and Myfanwy got in touch about their wedding.

The Mile End Arts Pavilion (otherwise know as the Mile End Ecology Pavilion) is a fantastic gallery and event space built into in a grass bank with glass frontage that floods the interiors with beautiful light. The huge floor to ceiling windows overlook a lake and peaceful parkland. This combination of its rural feel and urban location makes it such a unique wedding unique venue, even for London standards!

WEDDING PREPARATIONS IN SPITALFIELDS

Nic and Myfanwy chose to get ready in real East London style and rented a beautifully restored Georgian house in Spitalfields. What a great way to start the wedding preparations. With access to all 5 floors of the house with every room had its own look and feel. Bright white washed sunlit bedrooms contrasting with darker atmospheric sitting rooms with soft light filtering in through original wooden shutters. It was a dream location to shoot in and allowed us to really make the most of the couple portraits. The backdrop of the house played a huge part in making their portraits so unique.

WEDDING CEREMONY AT TOWER HAMLETS REGISTRY OFFICE

After squeezing in some photographs of Nic & Myfanwy in front of the faded facade of the house we headed over to The Tower Hamlets Registry Office on Mile End Road. Friends and family walked from a nearby pub where they’d been enjoying a pre wedding tipple. Post ceremony, after  confetti shot and some mingling in the little registry office garden, guests all piled onto a red route master bus and made their way to the Mile End Arts Pavilion for the reception.

WEDDING RECEPTION AT THE MILE END ARTS PAVILION

Spacious, bright and with a great outside space to mingle and explore the pavilion couldn’t be a more perfect space for a wedding reception. It was lovely to see guests wandering about, getting some air and taking in the surroundings. Another huge bonus is that the park leads right onto the towpath of regents canal so before dinner I took a walk with Nic & Myfanwy shooting some portraits along the way. The canal boats, bridges, graffiti and nature all made for more photo opportunities. Guests were seated for dinner and after a series of hilarious speeches and cake cutting the band kicked off and the party began.
