SUTTON HOUSE WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER

MICRO WEDDING

I love a micro wedding. I always have done actually. In fact I’ve been shooting micro weddings for years and never even knew it had it’s own name until the dreaded C word came along!

I love the relaxed feel and slower pace of a Micro wedding and how fluid the day can be when there are so little time restraints and guests to organise. It’s great seeing how much time couples get to spend with their guests and how relaxed I see everyone looking. It feels just like how a wedding should feel. Simple, fun and zero stress.

Jamie and Keiko were testament to this. Their guests cycled to and from the ceremony at Sutton House and Jamie and Keiko grabbed their oyster card rode a regular bus to the reception. No fuss, just laughs…. what more could you want from a wedding?

TOWN HALL HOTEL WEDDING PREPARATIONS

Jamie and Keiko started the day by getting ready together in a suite at the Town Hall Hotel in Bethnal Green. It makes me so happy when couples get ready together. Spending a peaceful morning, chatting and talking about the day ahead. It must be the best way to start your wedding day. I not only shoot a lot of weddings at the Town Hall Hotel but I also shoot a lot of preparation photos there.  The design of the interiors coupled with the great window light in every room gives the photos an almost cinematic look.

SUTTON HOUSE WEDDING CEREMONY

We jumped in a cab and headed to Sutton House for the wedding ceremony. I’ve shot a few weddings at Sutton House over the years and yet it still somehow feels like a real hidden gem.

Sutton House lies between Hackney Central and Homerton overground stations. Built in 1535 it’s one of London’s last remaining Tudor houses. I find it astonishing that in such a busy and hectic area you can walk through it’s doors and be transported back into another time. Oak panelled rooms, a great hall with huge stone fireplaces and a lovely calm and tranquil courtyard. It’s not what you expect when you think of a Hackney wedding!

Jamie and Keiko had their wedding ceremony in the Great Chamber and after a few family photos outside guests hopped on their bikes or caught the bus to the reception venue.  I then spent some time with Jamie and Keiko on the couple shots. We went back into the house to capture them inside with the incredible interiors as a backdrop. We then wandered through the streets of Hackney stopping off for photos when we saw something we liked the look of. After a stroll through the churchyard of St John’s Church at Hackney Churchyard Gardens we jumped on a bus to Shoreditch for a few more shots before joining the guests for dinner.

WEDDING RECEPTION AT DISHOOM IN SHOREDITCH

Jamie & Keiko hired out a small area in Dishoom to enjoy dinner with their guests. It’s still one of the most memorable wedding receptions I’ve been too. Everyone huddled around a couple of tables chatting and talking, the humdrum of the restaurant in the background. Food and drink was ordered and it felt like I was out with friends having dinner. Which was exactly what Jamie and Keiko wanted from their wedding reception. A few select friends stood up for some informal and impromptu speeches while Jamie and Keiko ate their dinner off the same plate to save table space. Such a cute wedding day and one of the reasons why I’m hoping that micro weddings are here to stay!
